We Need Judges and Referees!

NCC needs dive parents to become Judges and/or Referees. No experience is needed - really - and it's a great way to get a close up view of the kids diving!! Our pool needs to provide 2 judges per away meet and one ref and one judge for each home meet so it is essential that we have many of the parents go through the training. Montgomery County dive league offers one session Officials Clinics, i.e. training sessions, throughout the dive season. They are generally an hour or so long & tell you all you need to know. This "training" is valid for 3 seasons, so those who attended a clinic before the 2007 season need to attend a clinic in 2009 and those who attend this year are good for the next three years! The dates are listed in the schedule below.

One Meter Dive Competition

Entering our 12th season, the Dive Team is open to all NCC members age 18 & under on June 1.

The season is composed of five dual meets held on Sunday afternoons followed by Divisional & All Stars Meets (for qualifying divers).

We welcome all ages and levels of divers (your child must be able to swim safely from the board to the ladder and be mature enough to take direction from our coaches).

Divers who compete in at least two meets are eligible for a trophy and the right to qualify for Divisionals.

Dive Team News

The NCC Sharx Dive Team is revving up for another great season and are looking forward to welcoming back our returning divers and hopefully recruiting many more kids who'd like to try the fun & exciting sport of diving.   No experience is necessary, our coaches are experienced with children of all ages and levels in a positive and safe environment!

Our Coaching Staff

Although we are sad to see last year’s head coach, Montana Puente, leave to join her parents in California, we are very excited abut our newly reconfigured coaching team, which has so many fun & exciting plans for the team this summer !

We’re so happy to welcome back as co-head coach our own Alex Rigaux. Alex has been diving for NCC for eight years, and has had many Divisional Championship #1 awards, as well as being an All Star diver each year of his diving career. He’s been coaching for NCC for the last two seasons and can’t wait to come back this summer! For the last 2 years he has also been the Captain of the Bethesda Chevy Chase High School Varsity Dive Team, and this year he finished 10th in the county of all high school divers! Alex is lifeguard, CPR and coaching certified. Alex is graduating from BCC this spring and will be headed to Colgate University in the fall. Welcome back Alex!

We are thrilled to introduce Gia D’Orazio, a new head co-coach working with Alex this summer! Gia has been diving competitively for over 7 years and has a great deal of coaching experience, having been the assistant coach of the Division I Old Georgetown Club for the last 3 years. She has made it to the MCDL All Star level four times, and dove for the Walter Johnson Varsity Dive Team for four years. She has just finished her freshman year at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).  She holds all coaching, lifeguarding and CPR certifications. Gia is so excited to be working with our team this summer!

Joining Alex & Gia again will be junior assistant coach Parker Rigaux. Parker will be a sophomore at BCC in the fall, where he broke the school record for diving his very first year on the team. He is a member of the Montgomery Dive Club National Team where he trains year round. Parker recently returned from East Nationals in Ohio where he finished 7th on the Eastern Seaboard. Parker loves working with kids of all ages but is particularly good with beginning divers!

Once again our meets will be Sunday afternoons at 5:00 pm with practice times after school beginning Memorial Day until school is out and then twice daily practice options so as not to conflict with swim team or camps.  Meet dates are set forth below:

Its never too early to start lining up volunteers which are essential for the running of the team! Please contact Stephanie Rigaux at hillridge@comcast.net if you can help. We do expect all parents to be actively involved so that the burden doesn't fall on only the few.

Kid Spirit Captains

This year we've decided to join ranks with the swim team and have team spirit captains to help boost morale and plan social events! We're looking for 2-4 kids with lots of enthusiasm to volunteer for these important positions! Ally Peek has already signed up as a Team Spirit Leader, and others are welcome to join!

Dive Team Representative

Returning this year as parent representative this year is Stephanie Rigaux, who has four children on the dive team this year! Joining Stephanie is Rachel Lostumbo, who has lots of great ideas for running the team this summer.

Chair Positions

To round our team we are looking for a Social Events Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, Meet Manager, Meet Concessions Manager and Banquet Coordinator. You can do these alone, or with a spouse or friend!

We look forward to another great summer of Sharx diving. Feel free to contact us at any time to discuss any questions, issues or concerns! We will post an online enrollment form shortly and have a staffed table on Opening Day where you can meet the coaches and sign up in person.
